A Press Release Announcement from civil society organisations from South Korea forwarded by the Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC)

SOUTH KOREA: Renault Samsung Motors should stop the disadvantage actions to the victim of sexual harassment and the colleague who assisted her with the court case

1. Thank you in advance to those who are assisting with this press material.

2. There has been a sexual harassment incident within the company, Renault Samsung Motors. Moreover, the victim who has appealed and a colleague who has assisted the victim are facing disadvantage actions from the company which is considered to be unlawful under the human rights.

3. According to the report presented by ‘Korea Women link’ in 2013, more than half of the counseling cases (56.35% ) were related to sexual harassment issues within the company (which has increased by 12% compared to the year before). In particular, cases that were reported as a disadvantage action were 79 incidents and this contributes to 35.59% of the counselling cases. Renault Samsung Motors is one of the main corporate cases where the victim and her colleague have been suffering from continuous harassment and unfair disciplinary actions by the company.

4. Members of National Assembly, Korean Women Link and Human Right Center have prepared a press interview to disclose the current sexual harassment incident that is happening at Renault Samsung Motors.
