ASIA: Correct Statement on Rights Award Issued

(Hong Kong, April 28, 2014) The Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has corrected and re-issued its 24 April 2014 statement concerning Bangladeshi human rights defender Adilur Rahman Khan. The re-issued statement may be accessed here.

In its original statement, AHRC stated that “Adilur has been selected as one of the three recipients, alongside Cao Shunli and Alejanda Acheita, for the 2014 Martin Ennals Human Rights Award, which will be presented in a formal ceremony in Geneva, Switzerland, on 7 October 2014.” The words imply that all three individuals have been awarded.

In fact, Adilur Rahman Khan, Cao Shunli, and Alejandra Ancheita are three final nominees for the Martin Ennals award, and only one of the three will be presented with the award.

The AHRC regrets the error.
