ASIA: Weekly Roundup, Episode 54

In recognition of the International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women, which was observed on Wednesday, this week’s episode of Weekly Roundup covers the topic of women’s rights in Asia.

The episode begins with recent revelations from Indonesia that women who join the police force are required to undergo unnecessary and traumatizing “virginity tests”.

Next, AHRC TV describes the continuing injustices in the tragic case of Darline Jane Las Pinas, a 14-year-old high school student from the Philippines, and gets an update from AbinaRombaoa, the Executive Director of the Moro Women Centre.

From Nepal, AHRC TV reveals data on violence against women and gets analysis from Advocate Mandira Sharma.

RanjeetaSadokpam, from the state of Manipur, India, visits the Weekly Roundup desk to discuss her workwith our anchor, Josefina Bergsten.

Finally, data from Pakistan illustrates the current status of women’s rights in that country as well.
