ASIA: Weekly Roundup, Episode 45

In the 45th episode of Human Rights Asia Weekly Roundup, AHRC TV turns its attention to how failures in the justice apparatuses of Asian states are pushing people to take the law into their own hands.

In particular, the programme covers three Asian countries where the system has failed:

  • India, where lawlessness has led to vigilantism
  • Pakistan, where militants exert power over large areas
  • Sri Lanka, where failed policing has led to street justice

The programme closes with an interview of Mr. Basil Fernando, Director of Policy and Programmes at the Asian Human Rights Commission, who warns against lawlessness and explains how responsibility falls squarely on the shoulders of ruling politicians.
