ASIA: AHRC TV – Weekly Roundup, Episode 6

The Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) wishes to announce the launch of its weekly video news bulletin, the Asian Human Rights Commission – Weekly Roundup.

The sixth episode, released today, 19 November 2013, covers an exclusive report on the 2nd Asian Alliance Against Torture and Ill-treatment Conference (AAATI), that took place in Hong Kong on November 11-13.

AAATI is organised by the AHRC, and Denmark’s DIGNITY, an international organisation that rehabilitates torture survivors and conducts research into torture practices worldwide

The bulletin features speakers from Asia and Europe, including parliamentarians, human rights defenders, experts on law and procedure, and academics coming together to discuss ways to combat the endemic problem of police torture that plagues much of Asia.

The bulletin covers country specific issues, theoretical frameworks presented and obligations under the Convention against Torture.

Speeches of parliamentarians from Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Burma, Indonesia and the Philippines are featured in the bulletin.

Watch this episode for extracts of this landmark meeting.

The bulletin can be watched online at www.humanrights.asia

The AHRC welcomes human rights news feeds to be considered for the weekly news bulletin, and suggestions to improve the news channel.
