INDONESIA: Discussion on the threat against freedom of expression and opinion of labor activities

The Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) wishes to inform you about the special discussion on the threat against the right to freedom of expression and opinion in Indonesia, in this case, related to labor activists.

The discussion presented two speakers: Mr. Kristianto, a labor activist, and Mr. Fathkul Khoir, a human rights lawyer from the Commission for Disappearances and Victims of Violence (KontraS), a prominent human rights organization based in East Java province office. The discussion led by Mr. Basil Fernando from the AHRC.

Mr. Kristianto summoned by the Jakarta Metropolitan because of his speech in a public space protesting against May Bank company based in Indonesia. Mr. Kristianto charged under article 27 paragraph 3 of the Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE) and article 310 of the Indonesian Penal Code (KUHP) with maximum sentences of 6 years imprisonment.
