A video presentation produced by the Asian Human Rights Commission

Literature can be a means of discussion on important contemporary social and human issues. In this interview Nilantha Illangamuwa discusses a new publication, a translation of collection of poems by Basil Fernando.

The discussion is on issues such as the inhibitions and restrictions on talking about love and sexuality in the local Sri Lankan context on the basis of a poem in the collection about a news item of a father killing himself after the principal of his son’s school confronted him about his son watching a blue movie.

There are further discussions on violence and its impact on individuals and society.
