Dear friends,
The Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) expresses our condolences to those who have lost loved ones and others who have been affected by the earthquake that struck the city of Yogyakarta, Indonesia on 27 May 2006. It has been reported that nearly 5,000 people have been killed, while 20,000 are injured and 200,000 have been rendered homeless.
Although rescue operations are underway at present, and governments have pledged emergency aid to Indonesia we call on our network to also assist in bringing relief to the survivors of this terrible tragedy. The victims urgently require:
1. Money
2. Medicines
3. Clothing
4. Food and water
5. Blankets
6. Tents, sleeping bags, emergency lamps
7. Cooking equipment
8. School materials
9. Praying equipment
