SRI LANKA: The response of Judicial Service Association of Sri Lanka to the statement made by the Minister of Justice Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe on 19th of June

We are forwarding below the report of the News First published on 24th of June, which is a response by the Judicial Service Association of Sri Lanka in response to an attack made by the Minister of Justice in Parliament during a debate.

In this statement, the Judicial Service Association of Sri Lanka has replied in detail to all the allegations made by the Minister of Justice in his speech. The statement further goes on to explain how injurious it is to make such statements using parliamentary privilege, just to attack judicial institutions.

The statement also points out how the balance of power which is distributed through the Legislature, Executive and the Judiciary, has been seriously undermined by such statements.
