WORLD: Eid greetings from the Asian Human Rights Commission

WORLD: Eid greetings from

The Asian Human Rights Commission joins with people around the world in celebrating the 1427th Eid Festival at the conclusion of the fasting month of Ramadan.

Eid is an important occasion for recognition and appreciation of our common humanity. It is especially a time that we should extend the spirit of solidarity to the millions of persons around the world living with the horrors of war, caste, violence and injustice. It is a time to recall all persons who are today suffering from torture, illegal or arbitrary imprisonment, the needless death of a loved one or senseless persecution for reasons of their religion, gender, race or otherwise. It is also a time to recall those living without housing, food, medicines or other basic needs with which to affirm their human dignity. And it is a time to reflect upon the malicious and inept governments that allow these things to occur.

All over the world, disasters of all descriptions–natural and manmade–are occurring due to greed and divisiveness. When faced with the extent of misery that these create, it is easy to feel helpless. But Eid is a time to reaffirm our inner strength and determination to do what we can to overcome something of these. It is here that the real meaning of Eid is to be found.
