Pakistan ranks in the bottom 10 countries of the world in the freedom of speech index. In order to perpetuate its Orwellian rule, the State has never allowed freedom of speech to flourish. The nation’s youth has been particularly susceptible to the State lock down on free expression. Pseudo democracies such as Pakistan have actively suppressed political dissent by discouraging free thinking, beginning right from school curriculums, which discourage children from asking questions. The youth of the nation is fed on a state narrative, and grow up to become mental slaves of the system.

Internet and social media has brought about a seismic change in the way people communicate, particularly the youth. This paradigm of freedom is about to change in Pakistan however, due to the Prevention of Electronic Crime Act (PECA) 2016, a law which strangulates the freedom of thought and expression, as well as freedom of religious belief over the Internet. Rights groups claim this law has draconian provisions that will blatantly infringe fundamental rights. Please see the full video
