The Sri Lankan parliament debated a motion of no confidence on Minister of Foreign Employment Promotion Dilan Perera for his failure to prevent the execution of Rizana Nafeek, who was executed by Saudi authorities. This execution has led to serious criticisms in Sri Lanka and abroad. The United National Party (UNP) presented the no confidence motion, which was debated in parliament.

During the debate, MA Sumanthiran MP, who raised several serious issues, including the misuse to the Prevention of Terrorism Act and the denial of the right to life by way of land grabbing in the north.
