“..in Malaysia, the fight against torture is something that, while people may be horrified by it, lacks an active campaign. I think that attending here has really focused my attention on torture and the need for long term reform of the overall system”

“..I think there is one element that is very important which is not included and that is the right of families to mourn their loved ones who have died from torture…”

“..My faith in God required and enables me to look at and accept every man and woman as an embodiment of God’s presence…Any attack or infringement on their inalienable rights to equality, freedom…will amount to torture…”

“Recently I visited a prison in Kathmandu… the name of the prison in Bengali is ‘Khoor’ meaning a dungeon or a pen where animals are kept. Inside torture continues…need to campaign against such prisons…”

When human beings were created by Allah, they were all given …rights to live without any difference. In the context of the discussion we had on jus cogens…Suharto must be brought to trial for the crimes he committed over more than 30 years.

A few echoes from the workshop which are quite indicative of the concerns expressed by the participants. It is our collective effort to implement this Convention that can serve as a common ground on which we can work towards a more compassionate, enlightened and respectful world.
